the sailors wife

Listen to this kitty’s meow! J and I are dog-sitting a husky and a lab mix at the house of a friend of his, and the other morning when we were leaving this cat came into the front yard and laid down in the sunflower bed. Sweet as he could be.

There’s nothing less empowering than this. This was posted by someone I went to college with. She’s incredibly kind and driven. Always has a cause she’s fighting for. She’s accepting donated winter coats and clothing for under-privelaged children as we speak. But this ‘quote’…. it all has to do with how a man sees you, as a female, as a woman. The word ‘woman’ isn’t even in there. Look like this. Act like this. Think as a man does, because only men are capable of thinking smartly and successfully— and then ‘boss’ implies male, because the aforementioned line is masculine leaning and men are usually the bosses. How about look and act how you want to. It doesn’t have to be gender specific, but also, women are doing and have done great things.

How about this:

Feel free to re-blog and make your own ‘Think like a woman’ image! Please, actually, make your own. Please tag ‘think like a woman’ so all of them can be seen!

My current job is processing money. Any ignorant or mean political dollars, I edit them. I usually leave the ‘boner’ dollars alone because they’re stupid and whatever. But yesterday I decided it might be fun to change it.  View Larger

Why Isn’t Election Day a National Holiday? #takebacktuesday
When you get to thinking about it, holding an election in the middle of the work week doesn’t make any sense. How can our democracy thrive when voting, perhaps our most broad-reaching civic duty, must be squeezed into what odd hours we can find for it?…
So, in the spirit of a more engaged citizenship, we figured we’d do something about it: We want to make Voting Day a holiday. And here’s our plan:

Tights review! Before our trip to Boston I thought it would be fun to invest in a couple new pairs of tights. The green pair is from Anthropologie and the pink/peachy pair is from DSW.

I ended up exchanging the pink pair for a black pair, because with my olive skintone it made my legs look like they just had small pink blotches on them, rather than having cute pink polka dots. The black pair is far more suitable, however they’re delicate. The green pair I’m super happy with, and they’re opaque, so they’re warmer than your average tights.

I bid thee a fair evening. ‘Til next time.

Next Tuesday, September 25, is National Voter Registration Day
In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. In 2012, resources to educate and mobilize voters have dwindled, fueling worries that many folks - especially young people - won’t turn out.
We want to make sure no one is left out, so we’ve partnered with volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country who are hitting the streets on September 25.
If you’re not registered, or need to renew your registration, check out www.tumblr.com/meetups to find an event near you.
If you’re already registered - or if there’s no event near you - organize your own NVRD meetup at www.tumblr.com/meetups/organize. We’ll send you everything you need!

That is homemade mint dark chocolate chunk ice cream! Six dollar thrift purchase from this past weekend. J did a wonderful job with the first experiment batch. I can’t wait to try it when it’s frozen.

The second photo is soon to be vodka soaked gummi bears. Tomorrow night we’re having a Friday party, just the two of us. It’s been a long, grueling week and we’re ready to be silly. I saw this gummi bear idea on Tumblr a while back and am glad to finally try it. The steps were: 1. Fill bowl with gummi bears. 2. Add alcohol of choice. 3. Get faded. Don’t mind if I do.

I know that a few of your Say Anything prints are available at Society 6, but do you know if the other prints in the series will ever be available there as well? from whypeoplelikemeexist

Hey there! If there’s a specific piece you’re interested in, shoot an email over to the artist. I’m sure he or she could get a print to you. xx
